Fed: Govt to have role in finding new Telstra chair - PM

CANBERRA, April 15 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard today said the government would
have an appropriate role in the selection of a new chairman for Telstra.

Telstra chairman Bob Mansfield last night resigned citing accountability issues on
the telco's board.

The government holds a 51.05 per cent stake in the telco.

Asked what role it would play in finding a new chairman, Mr Howard said: "We will have
an appropriate role".
